I’ve been playing Tiger Woods lately, just as a nice distraction when I can’t get onto the golf course.  I have to say with the motion controls of both the PS3 and Wii versions, it’s pretty amazing how spot on the games actually are. While they aren’t going to capture the feel of having to hit out of the rough, or trying to blast your way out of the sand, the game does accurately capture how you need to swing.

Videogames have come pretty far recently, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 is something that’s going to blow you away, with just how incredible the motion control is in it’s accuracy.  We’re talking the game is going to force you to follow through just as you would if you were actually hitting the ball. Any incorrect placement or movement of the wrist, and you’re going to have yourself a pretty major problem.  It’s just as easy to shank a ball in Tiger Woods as it is in real life.

That’s where the game’s great difficulty comes in, and you’ll find usually the motion controls do a pretty fantastic job of enabling you to get accurate power and motion into your swings as well.  So if you’re trying to boom the ball 300 yards on your initial driving shot, you’re going to have to put your whole body into it, just like real life.  But the same is true for finesse as well.  If you want that seemingly easy chip, then you better be careful with how fast you swing.

While videogames are  never going to replace actually golfing, Tiger Woods 2012 can be a cool way for you to get some practice in between trips.  You’ll keep your swinging motion going strong, and you can be sure your muscles still get enough of a workout.  So I would call this iteration of the PGA game series a good way to have fun and experience the difficulty of tour courses you’d probably never get to play otherwise.

Plus the addition of The Masters as a tournament option for the first time ever is fantastic.  You can really get a chance to play Augusta, which is remarkably rare in real life, unless you’ve got some friends that happen to be members.

So all in all, a mixed bag, but definitely something to check out if you love the game of golf.  Plus with 1080p HD support on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game, you can be sure this is a beauty to behold graphics wise.  So what is there to lose by giving Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 a shot?
